Brij Mohan, Dean Emeritus, School of Social Work, Louisiana State University, USA, is an internationally renowned educator, author and editor.
His areas of research and expertise mainly include social philosophy, social welfare, public policy, and international social development. Before joining the University of Wisconsin, 1975, Dr. Mohan taught at Lucknow University where he earned the first doctorate in Social Work in 1964 on a prized UGC Scholarship under the guidance of the legendary Dr. S. Zafar Hasan. Having published 25 books and over 400 articles, papers, and reviews, Professor Mohan has established himself as one of the most authentic and creative scholars in Social Sciences.
His most recent books include Rediscovery of Society (Nova, 2022), Social Policy on Cusp (Nova, 2020), The Future of Social Work (Sage, 2018), Development, Poverty of Culture, and Social Policy (Palgrave, 2011), and Climate, Economy and Justice (Palgrave, 2015). He has earned numerous honors and awards, including a D. Litt. from M.K. Gandhi Kashi, Vidyapith. He was recognized as a “Social Work Pioneer” by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW, 1995). He also received a Lifetime Achievement Award from NASW (LA Ch) in 1998. National Association of Professional Social Workers in India conferred Lifetime Achievement Award, in 2016 at its 4th Indian Social work Congress “for addressing and strengthening social work education and practice at a global level as a social work professional of Indian Origin.” In 1997 the Louisiana State University Foundation endowed the ‘Brij Mohan Distinguished Professor Award’ in his honor. He is currently working on two books, a novella, and Kafka’s Cave, his memoir.
Dr. Mohan is founding Editor-in-Chief of Environment and Social Psychology and Journal of Comparative Social Welfare (now published as Journal of International and Comparative Policy by Cambridge University Press). He is also Editor of Social Development Issues (ICSD). He has recently joined as the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences Research (JHSSR).
