Submission Check-list
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

The submission represents an original work that has not been published elsewhere nor submitted to another journal for publication and in any language;

The submission meets word length requirements for the manuscript type, which is all-inclusive of article text, references, tables, and figures;

The manuscript is written in clear and concise English language that is engaging, lively, and direct, using active voice whenever possible, be clear and keep it brief. Brevity in this instance is power;

Title: Should be attractive and indicative. No more than 30 words.
Capitalise all nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs and subordinate conjunctions (i.e. as, because, although). Use lowercase for all articles, coordinate conjunctions and prepositions.

Running-head: No more than 50-character spaces.
Running head or title is the title or abbreviated title of a volume printed at the top of left-hand text pages or sometimes of all text pages. If the title of your manuscript is very long, we need running title for your manuscript. If your paper title is longer than 50 characters, you need to use an abbreviated version for the running head. The APA guidelines state that: 1). You don’t necessarily need to use the same words in the same order; 2). You can’t use abbreviations, but you may use an ampersand (&) instead of the word “and”."

The submission includes full author name(s), emails, full affiliation for each author in the Title Page;

Corresponding author(s) have been clearly identified and marked;

Abstract: Should describe your entire study at a glance. No more than 150 words (maximum).
The abstract should be a single paragraph and follow the style of structured abstract with or without headings:
1) Background: Write the question addressed in a broad context and highlight the purpose of the study;
2) Methods: Describe briefly the main methods or treatments applied. Include any relevant preregistration numbers and details of methods or materials.
3) Results: Summarize the article's main findings, and
4) Conclusion: Indicate the main conclusions or interpretations. The abstract should be an objective representation of the article. It must not contain results that are not presented and substantiated in the main text and should not exaggerate the main conclusions.

The submission includes five to eight keywords;

Word count: Adhere to the stipulated word-count. Research articles: not more than 6,000 words, and Review articles: 3,000 words maximum excluding References and Tables.

Manuscript structure: The journal uses IMRAD style.
i.e. refers to a paper that is structured by four main sections: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion and References, Figure Captions, Tables.

The submission cites current theoretical and empirically-based literature, including relevant articles published in JHSSR;

Competing interests: If any of the authors have any competing interests then these must be declared
A short paragraph should be placed before the references. If there are no competing interests to declare then the following statement should be present: The author(s) has/have no competing interests to declare.

Acknowledgements: This usually follows the Discussion and Conclusions sections.
Its purpose is to thank all of the people who helped with the research but did not qualify for authorship. E.g. This could be someone from a sponsoring institution, a funding body, other researchers, or even family, friends or colleagues who have helped in the preparation.

Funding: Please state if any funding is received, and state source of funding, otherwise mention “No funding was received for this research”.

References: All references list under "bibliography" must be cited in-text (correspondence between in-text
citations and your reference list.
The submission adheres to APA 7 stylistic and bibliographic requirements.
Each reference cited in text must appear in the reference list, and ensure each entry in the reference list must be cited in-text (correspondence between in-text citations and your reference list);

The submission includes a brief bio statement for each author stated in the manuscript. The biographical statement may not exceed 75 words.
It should include the author(s) full name, affiliation, email. In addition, it is also appropriate for all the authors to discuss their personal history, academic program and/or field placement, and interest in the article’s subject.

The author biography should be accompanied with a high-resolution picture (in JPEG file format and NOT pasted in a Word file) of each author listed in this manuscript;

Originality: The author must ensure that when a manuscript is submitted to Horizon, the manuscript is an original work.
Horizon uses TurnItIn to check the similarity index of every manuscript. All submitted manuscripts must be in the Journal’s acceptable similarity index range: < 25%– PASS; 30-40%– RESUBMIT MS; > 40%– REJECT.

Permission has been obtained for use of copyrighted material from other sources including the Web.

The manuscript must be accompanied with the following documents:

Pre-Submission Language Editing for Scholarly Manuscripts:
The use of language editing services prior to submission may be valuable for some authors. If authors wish to hire a professional editor prior to submission, the journal has an arrangement with Beyond Proofreading, a member of the Language Society for Editing who specializes in language editing for scholarly manuscripts. Authors may email their pre-submission manuscript to Brown at
[email protected] and mention their plans to submit to the Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences Research for a discount on editing services. The use of pre-submission language editing services is optional.
