Dr. Zalina Shari is an Associate Professor and the Head of Architecture Department at the Faculty of Design and Architecture (FRSB), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). She received her PhD in Architecture (specialising in building sustainability assessment) in 2011 from the University Of Adelaide, South Australia. With this expertise, she has been teaching sustainability-related courses for the Master of Architecture programme in UPM. Zalina also shares her knowledge and expertise on sustainability issues and different Green building rating tools with government and non-government agencies and at educational events and programmes.
She has supervised 9 MSc. and 5 PhD students in the area of green/sustainable design and planning, 7 of whom have completed (2 MSc. as main supervisor; 2 PhD and 3 MSc. as co-supervisor). To date, she has published 10 book chapters and 50 journal, conference, magazine, and newspaper articles related to green building and sustainability in the built environment.
She was the Chairman of three national sustainable building-related conferences in 2012, 2015 and 2018 and one international conference in 2018. She was the International Scientific Committee member for the Intâl Architectural Science Association Conferences (ASA2015 Melbourne, ASA2016 Adelaide and ASA2017 Wellington). She is currently a member of editorial boards for several international journals; as well as an author and national correspondent for an international professional magazine, FuturArc: The Voice of Green Architecture in Asia-Pacific.
She served as a board member of the Malaysia Green Building Confederation for 5 years (2014-2018). For her academia achievements, she was awarded the âExcellent Service Awardsâ by UPM in 2004, 2013, 2014 and 2016; âThe Best Academician for the Category of Teachingâ by FRSB in 2016 and 2017; and âVice Chancellor Fellowship Award for Excellent Educator Category 2017â by UPM. In 2019, she was one of UPMâs candidates for the "13th National Academic Award for Teaching Category 2019 (Anugerah Akademik Negara ke-13 Kategori Pengajaran 2019)", the highest recognition for Malaysian scholars sponsored by the Ministry of Education Malaysia.
