JHSSR is an open access journal and researchers worldwide will have full access to all the articles published online and be able to download them with zero subscription fee. It publishes on not-for-profit basis.

The journal uses a stringent double-blind peer-review process and follows code of conduct stipulated by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Open access is an integral part of our commitment to a collaborative, inclusive and transparent world of research where authors, researchers and academic institutions can share knowledge and build on each other's work to advance outcomes.

Our editorial decisions are conducted by our expert in-house editors who are prominent scholars from academic institutions or research institutes across the world thus removing any potential bias or conflict of interest.

Each editor is focused on specific subject categories enabling them to gain a deep, nuanced knowledge of the research in that field. This contrasts sharply with methods used to evaluate research with other reviewers that rely on other common aspects of editorial decision making to the research community. An Editorial Board member term is typically three years.

The Editorial Board is composed of academics, each of which commits to actively undertake their term for a minimum period of 36 months, renewable for a period of 24 months.

Role of the Editorial Board

The Horizon Journal’s Editorial Board consist of the Editor(s)-in-Chief, a Chief Executive Editor and Associate Editors. The Chair of the Editorial Board is the Editor-in-Chief. An editorial board consists of selected, unpaid experts in the academic field.

Editor-in-Chief

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for assigning the submissions received to Associate editors who are experts in the subject areas of the papers received. The Editor-in-Chief will be duly informed by the Chief Executive Editor of the timeline and deadlines that need to be followed when assigning an editorial task such as reviewing.

The primary role of Chief Executive Editor is to realize the mission for the journal, as set forth by the Editor-in-Chief. The CEE sets the journalistic standards and also provides a vision for the rest of the editorial board.

The CEE shall manage the peer review process of the journal, ensuring speed and courtesy, and to act as the central contact with the publisher, ensuring prompt publication of quality articles.

To check and reject a piece of writing that appears to be not original, plagiarized or ghost written by another author; or have already been published in whole or in substantial part elsewhere.

Chief Executive Editor

The Chief Executive Editor (CEE) is responsible for the overall quality and content of the journal. The CEE must possess high level of intellectual capabilities, diplomacy and ability for conflict resolution, and uphold impeccable ethical standards.

The CEE shall manage the peer review process of the journal, ensuring speed and courtesy, and to act as the central contact with the publisher, ensuring prompt publication of quality articles.

To check and reject a piece of writing that appears to be not original, plagiarized or ghost written by another author; or have already been published in whole or in substantial part elsewhere.

Associate Editors

The primary role of the Associate Editors is to advise and support the Editor-in-Chief and the Chief Executive Editor, who have responsibility for the content of the journal. The secondary role is to identify and suggest suitable reviewers to the Chief Executive Editor for the manuscripts received by the journal, and to occasionally review papers.

Once the review process is complete and author/s have made the revisions in accordance with the reviewers’ comments, the associate editors make a recommendation to the Chief Executive Editor or Editor-in-Chief regarding the final decision on the manuscript.

The tasks for each editorial role are clearly defined so that all assignments are evenly distributed and the review and publication process run as efficiently as possible. All Editorial Board Members are also welcome to contribute manuscripts to any issue of JHSSR, and, should that be the case, all Instructions for Authors must be followed.

If there are any papers (co-)authored by the Associate Editors submitted to an issue, all editorial decisions regarding these papers will be made by the Editor-in-Chief. This procedure is implemented in order to avoid any conflict of interests.

If any reviewer fails to submit their review report and not enough reports are collected (at least 2 per manuscript), the Chief Executive Editor must contact the relevant Associate Editor and find an alternative reviewer who is able to review the manuscript as quickly as possible.

All Editorial Board Members, when joining the Editorial Board, must agree that they:

1. Will actively participate in the process of attracting submissions to the journal: each Editorial Board member is in charge of inviting colleagues and peers to contribute an article to the journal and of guaranteeing that at least 3 manuscripts from their invitees are submitted to each issue of the journal. The Editorial Board member needs to provide the Chief Executive Editor with a list of names and email addresses of suitable subject experts who will act as potential reviewers to the manuscripts received for intended publication.

2. Will help promoting the journal: All Editorial Board Members commit to represent JHSSR at academic events, such as conferences, and promote the journal’s Call for Papers through their own networks.

3. Can fulfil all their assignments in timely and honourable manner: being an Editor is a very rewarding, yet serious and time-consuming experience. Editorial Board members are expected to dedicate enough time to the journal’s activities and to perform all their duties in a dedicated, professional, and timely manner.

A minimum of 10 contributions per issue must be confirmed.
