Dr. Puvaneswaran Kunasekaran is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Social and Developmental Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. He obtained his PhD in the field of Community Development and Tourism from the University Putra Malaysia.
His research is mainly focused on community-based tourism, indigenous tourism, sustainable tourism practices, and mixed-method studies. He has supervised five PhD scholars as the main supervisor and has examined numerous PhD theses around the world.
He has delivered keynote speeches in various countries, including China and India, on contemporary issues of sustainable tourism. He is also the Honorary Treasurer of the ASEAN Tourism Researchers Association (ATRA), an Academic Visitor at Strathclyde Business School, University of Strathclyde, UK and a Visiting Professor at Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU).
He has published extensively in reputable academic journals in sustainability, community development, and tourism areas. Apart from active research involvement, he is also involved in community development projects mainly in the rural areas of Malaysia by creating community capacity using tourism as a tool.
