Naginder Kaur (PhD) is an Associate Professor at the Academy of Language Studies, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Perlis Branch, Malaysia.
Her research interests and expertise include the scope of MUET (Malaysian University English Test), IELTS (International English Language Testing System), autonomous learning, vocabulary instruction, and ESL writing. Dr Naginder has beyond 30 years of English language teaching (ELT) experience, which entails the scope of teaching, research and publication, consultancy, product innovation & commercialisation, service to the university, student development, community service, and industrial networking. She teachers diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate courses, namely, English proficiency, MUET / IELTS preparatory courses, ESP, EAP, and Applied Linguistics courses. Dr Naginder has considerable experience of being a trainer at IELTS and MUET workshops. In this role, she has conducted multiple IELTS workshops both locally and abroad, as well as MUET workshops at various institutions in Malaysia.
As an academic striving to grow multi-dimensionally, she has published 16 books, as a single and co-author. As a prolific and competent book writer, she won the prestigious Malaysian National Book Award, 2015 for the book entitled, Integrated Language Skills: Writing (https://www.utusan.com.my/pendidikan/kampus/usaha-dua-pensyarah-uitm-hasilkan-buku-berbaloi-8232-terima-anugerah-buku-negara-1.164859) as well as UiTM Academic Award, 2015. She is also actively engaged in conference presentations and publication of research articles in established international journals, and has accumulated approximately 20 SCOPUS indexed publications, as well as many ERA and MyCite-indexed articles.
Dr Naginder was a recipient of the 2008 Endeavour Research Fellowship Award from the Department of Science and Technology (DEST), Australia. The award presented her with the opportunity to conduct a 6-month fellowship programme at University of Technology Sydney (UTS) from 2008 to 2009 as a visiting scholar.
Dr Naginder has been the EBM of Horizon JHSSR since 2020. Her article entitled The Face of Education and the Faceless Teacher Post COVID-19, published in JHSSR Vol 2(S) 2020, has been acknowledged as the most viewed and downloaded paper of the journal to date.
Besides publication of books and research articles, Dr Naginder also has wide experience in editorial work, where she served as the lead Editor for the monthly bulletin of UiTM Perlis Branch for 10 years. She is also the Editor and regular reviewer for several SCOPUS and other indexed journals.
